When my perfect sister stole my husband while I was pregnant, I felt completely devastated. She always believed she was better than me and finally got what she wanted. But life has a way of turning things around. When everything fellated for her, she appeared at my door, begging for help.
My whole life had been in second place. No matter how hard I tried, it was never enough for my parents. I took home highlights, kept my room spotless and did everything possible to make them feel proud.

But none of that mattered. Stacy, my little sister, was his shining star. While I quietly succeeded at school and did the chores without being asked, Stacy broke records in swimming competitions.
My parents treated her like a celebrity and spent every free moment focused on her success. I felt invisible.
The only person who really saw me was my grandmother. He often took me to his house, where I felt a warmth and a love that I never felt in my own house.

In many ways, she raised me. I spent the weekends and summers with her, learning to cook, watching old movies and feeling that it mattered.
When I finished high school, my parents didn’t even pretend they cared. They kicked me out, telling me that I was alone now.
It was my grandmother who helped me move to my university residence after getting a scholarship.

That scholarship was my only escape route. When I turned 18, I refused to accept more money from her.
He had already done enough for me. When I got a good job after graduating, I felt proud to finally be able to give it back to him.
I’m married to Henry now. My grandmother never liked it. He always said that there was something strange about him, but I thought he loved me.

However, my grandmother had recently been feeling well. I felt a knot in my stomach as I drove to his house.
I knew I had to visit her. Now she needed me, as I had always needed her.
We were sitting at the kitchen table, drinking tea. My grandmother stirred the tea slowly, with her eyes fixed on the cup. Then, he looked up and asked, “Are you still with Henry?”

I was paralyzed for a moment, with my fingers tight around the cup. “Of course,” I said. “We are married.”
His eyes didn’t turn away from mine. “And his adventures?”
I moved uncomfortably in the chair. That question hurt me more than I wanted to admit. “He promised me he wouldn’t cheat on me again,” I said.

“And you believe him?” he asked softly.
“I’m trying,” I murmured. “He loves me. I have to believe him.” I hesitated and then added: “I’m pregnant. I want my son to have a father.”
My grandmother’s expression didn’t change. “That’s not love, May,” he said softly.

“He sees me,” I said, trying to convince the two of us.
“Then why do you spend so much time with your parents and Stacy?” he asked.
I looked away. “I also talk to them. Just not so much,” I said, trying to downplay it.

“Exactly.” He let out a strong sigh. “I don’t want to upset you, but my friend saw Henry and Stacy together. They were in a restaurant.”
My stomach turned. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. “What are you saying?” I asked, with a trembling voice.
“Maybe Stacy couldn’t stand you being happy,” he said softly.
“That’s ridiculous!” I exclaimed, my heart beating hard. “I don’t want to talk about this.”

I grabbed my bag and got up. I couldn’t keep listening. As I headed for the door, I heard his voice, calm but full of concern. “May, honey, I’m just trying to help you,” he told me sweetly. But I had already left.
As I drove home, my anger boiled inside me. This time my grandmother had crossed the line.
How could I have said something so cruel? Henry had made mistakes, but he was trying. And Stacy? He was selfish, but even she wouldn’t fall so low.

When I got to the entrance, I turned off the engine and took a deep breath. I needed to calm down.
But as soon as I entered, I felt that something was wrong. Then I heard noises coming from upstairs.
Soft and dull sounds that shouldn’t have been there. My heart was beating hard as I went up the stairs.

My hands were shaking when I approached the bedroom door. I opened it and I froze.
Henry and Stacy. In my bed.
My eyes filled with tears. I couldn’t move. For a moment, the world stopped. Henry was the first to see me.
His eyes opened wide, panicked, as he jumped out of bed and put on his clothes.

“May! What are you doing here?” Henry shouted, his voice full of panic.
I couldn’t believe what I hear. “What do I do in my own house?” I shouted, with a trembling voice.
“You were supposed to be at your grandmother’s house,” Henry said, pulling his shirt.

“Is that all you have to say?” I asked, my eyes full of tears. “I just caught you in bed with my sister, and that’s your excuse?”
“So what?” Stacy said, sitting on the bed. A smile of satisfaction was drawn on his face. “I’m better than you. I’ve always been. No wonder Henry also noticed.”
“How dare you!” I shouted, with overflowing rage.

“But it’s true,” Henry said, with a cold and cruel tone. “Stacy is prettier. She is always beautiful, wears makeup and keeps fit.”
“And he doesn’t work!” I exclaimed.
“Hainge a job doesn’t matter,” Henry said. “And let’s be honest. You’ve gained weight.”

My stomach turned. My hand instinctively touched my belly. “Because I’m pregnant! From your son!” I shouted.
Henry’s face hardened. “I don’t know if that’s true,” he said. “Stacy and I talk. I’m not sure the baby is mine.”
I was left with my mouth open. I could barely breathe. “Are you kidding me? You have been the one who has deceived me over and over again!”

“Maybe you cheated on me too,” Henry said, crossing his arms as if he were the victim.
“Yes, of course!” Stacy intervened, with a voice full of satisfaction.
“Shut up!” I shouted at him, with trembling hands.
“You can say whatever you want,” Henry said. “I’m done with this. I’m going to ask for a divorce.”

“Are you serious?!”, I shouted with my heart racing.
“Yes. Pick up your things and leave tonight,” Henry said coldly. “The house is in my name.”
I sneered, drying my tears. “We’ll see how long you last without me,” I said, and then I turned to Stacy. “So you know, he’s been unemployed for six months. He can’t even find a job.”

“He still bought me expensive gifts,” Stacy said with an arrogant smile.
“I wonder whose money it must have been!” I replied, with a voice full of disgust.
I gathered my things, putting the clothes in bags. At night, I had already left. I had nowhere to go.

My heart broke as I drove to the only place where I knew I would be safe. I stood in front of my grandmother’s door and rang the bell.
When he opened and saw me, I couldn’t hold back anymore. Tears ran down my face as I whispered, “You were right.”
He held me in his arms. “Yeah, yeah, everything will be fine,” he said softly, stroking my hair.

Henry and I divorced and he kept everything. The house, the furniture and even some of the things I bought.
I only had the car left. I didn’t care. I was just happy to get rid of him. My grandmother was the only one who supported me in everything.
He gave me a place to stay and made sure I didn’t feel alone. I was incredibly grateful for his love and support.

One night, while folding the clothes, my grandmother entered the room. He had a serious face. He sat next to me and took my hand. “May, we need to talk,” he said softly.
My heart shrank. “What happened?” I asked, with my voice just above a whisper.
He took a deep breath. “I didn’t want to tell you, but I guess I have to. When I started to feel bad, the doctor told me that I had a few years left.”

I was frozen. “What?” I whispered, with a lump in my throat.
“I didn’t say anything because I thought I had more time left,” he said softly. “But now… the doctor says I only have a few months left.”
My eyes filled with tears. “No… this can’t be happening,” I murmured.

“Unfortunately, I won’t be able to help you with my great-grandson,” he said, his voice full of sadness.
“Please, grandma,” I begged her. “Promise me you’ll live long enough to meet him. Promise me you’ll see.” Tears ran down my face as I hugged her tightly.
He gently stroked my hair. “I can’t make promises that I’m not sure I can keep,” she whispered.

Every day that passed, my grandmother was weaker. I could see it in his eyes and the way his hands trembled.
I tried to spend as much time as possible with her. I stopped going to the office and started working from home.
I wanted to be close in case you needed me. He prepared his favorite meals, although he barely ate.

I cleaned the house and kept things in order, but I made sure that I still felt useful.
“Grandma, do you like this color for the baby’s room?” I asked her one afternoon, showing her fabric samples.
He smiled softly. “The blue. It’s calm and peaceful.”

We took short walks when he felt strong. We watched our favorite programs in the afternoons, laughing at the same jokes we had heard hundreds of times. She was my strength, and I was hers.
But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t stop time. My grandmother died when I was eight months pregnant.
He never got to know his great-grandson. Losing her destroyed me, but I had to stay calm for my baby. He couldn’t let my pain hurt him.

At the funeral, I saw my family for the first time in a long time. My parents, Stacy and even Henry showed up.
Stacy didn’t look like herself. His face was pale and his eyes were sunken. She seemed tired and exhausted.
After mass, we met in my grandmother’s living room to read her will. I sat in silence, with my hands resting on my belly.

“There’s not much to say,” the lawyer began. “May and her son inherit everything, with a note that says: ‘For always being there’.”
I was frozen. I knew my grandmother would leave me something, but I never imagined that she would leave me everything.
My family burst into screams. My parents argued. Stacy made a fuss. Even Henry had something to say. The noise was too much. I felt dizzy. The lawyer noticed and quickly accompanied them to the exit.

With my grandmother’s inheritance, I had enough to take maternity leave without worrying.
Even so, he didn’t want to waste his money. I was thinking of working as long as I could. I knew she would want me to be strong.
Shortly after the funeral, someone rang my doorbell. I wasn’t expecting anyone.

When I opened the door, I saw Stacy. He looked even worse than at the funeral.
His face was pale and his eyes were red and swollen. His clothes were wrinkled and his hair was a mess.
“What do you want?” I asked, in a hoarse voice.
“Can I come in?” Stacy asked in a low voice, avoiding my eyes.

“Say what you need here,” I told him.
“I need your help,” he said, his voice just above a whisper. “I need money.”
I crossed my arms. “Why should I help you?”

“Henry hasn’t found a job yet,” he said, with a trembling voice. “We lost the house because of the debts. Now we live with our parents.” He looked down. “And… he deceives me.”
“That was your choice, Stacy,” I said. “You stole my husband because you thought you were better than me. Do you remember?”
“I didn’t know it would end like this,” he whispered. “Maybe… maybe you could let us stay with you? You have more space than our parents.”

I blinked in disbelief. “Do you hear yourself? You’ve spent your whole life belittling me. You took my husband. And now you want my help?”
“Is it that hard for you?” Stacy exclaimed, raising her voice.
“You made Henry pregnant that I wasn’t pregnant with him,” I said firmly. “I have to focus on my son’s future. Not in you.”

His eyes filled with tears. “What am I supposed to do?” he shouted.
“You made your decision,” I said in a calm but firm voice. “The most I can do is give you the contact information of a good divorce lawyer.” I paused and added, “After all, you saved me from Henry.”
“You’re horrible!” Stacy shouted, her face twisted with anger.

I looked at her, with a firm heart. “Think about everything you’ve done to me and then decide who’s really horrible here.”
“I’m not going to leave Henry!” he shouted. “I don’t need your lawyer!” She turned around and left furiously.
I saw her leave without saying one more word. I didn’t feel guilty. I had finally defended myself.

I entered and closed the door behind me. For the first time in a long time, I felt like I could breathe. The weight of everything was dissipating little by little. I leaned against the door and let out a deep sigh.
My heart still ached for my grandmother. I missed her every day. The house felt empty without his warmth and his love. But even though he was no longer there, he had taken care of me and my baby.
He had left us security and a future. I put my hand on my belly and whispered: “Thank you, grandma. I’ll make you feel proud.”
