Miranda, a dedicated Mexican woman, struggles when her ex humiliates her at work. Miranda is scared to act because her job is at jeopardy, but her ex’s anguish motivates her. Though she risks losing her job, she makes him pay for his crimes.
Publicly breaking up with her ex had depressed Miranda. She realized she had to labor to survive as an immigrant in a new nation. Her worries seemed to never stop. After another late arrival, she had to explain the matter to her restaurant kitchen boss, Michael.
Michael, I’m sorry for being late again. Lots has happened—my boyfriend and I broke up, and everyone knows “Miranda whispered gently.
Miranda, your life is your thing, but I don’t like it when it affects work. Please arrive on time and ready to work. “Final warning,” Michael said genuinely.
Miranda promised to improve, but seeing her ex Colin and his girlfriend Leslie at a restaurant table made it tougher. Michael refused to let her avoid serving them, citing the necessity to be professional.
Miranda, we all have challenges. You must work—I’m short on staff—and not flee “Michas stated without looking at her.
Miranda had to serve Colin and Leslie, who were unpleasant and made fun of her hometown.
We have Miranda, servicing tables. I suppose people from your background find their calling in service, huh?” Colin was mean.
Miranda covered her distress with a tight grin and a request to order.
Colin intentionally dropped his fork, prompting Miranda to fetch it.
Miranda did that, and Leslie laughed and clapped. Look at Miranda!” Picking things up is her forte!”
Miranda felt terrible since everyone was staring at her. With shaky hands, she returned the fork to Colin. Colin said “Thanks,” but he didn’t mean it. “You’re such a team player.”
Miranda stayed calm and swiftly brought their Mexican stew order, hoping they would stop being rude. But Colin thought the stew wasn’t spicy enough and flipped his dish all over. The muck stained Miranda’s clothes.
While cleaning up, she added, “It’s okay,” trying not to sound upset. But Leslie laughed, and everyone watched. Miranda lost all her confidence and strength with so many eyes on her.
She couldn’t hold back her tears. She cried after hiding in a corner in the kitchen.
A voice interrupted her sobbing. “Here, take this,” it said.
Chef Robert held a cooking towel as Miranda looked up. She knew he was compassionate and helped his coworkers. His presence made her cry harder as she received the towel.
Miranda, I don’t want to interfere in your personal life, but you’re stronger than you believe. Your spirit is bigger than your troubles.”
Miranda sniffled, knowing she needed to talk, so she told Chef Robert. As she remembered her early days with Colin and the event that shattered everything, he listened like a gentleman. Colin wanted to go to a party with her, but she was anxious about schoolwork.
College friends Miranda, Colin, and Leslie.
“I really should study, Colin,” she said. “My grades aren’t looking too good.”
Colin refused her no, shaking his head. Come on, Miranda. You work hard and are smart. A night off won’t hurt. Please join me.”
Miranda was stuck. She wanted to see Colin but had to study. “I’ll consider it. I’ll tell you tonight “finally told him.
Miranda returned to her room eager and stressed after they kissed and Colin promised a good night. Leslie, her roommate, interrupted her when she entered.
“What’s up, Miranda? Look joyful. Where did those flowers come from? “she said. If Miranda had known the girl was a wolf disguised as a sheep…
This is Colin. His kindness makes me like him. He invited me to a party, but exams are stressful.”
Miranda, enjoy life too. Don’t let exams stop you!” Leslie stated. “Come on, this is the time to have fun!”
“Les, I really need to study.”
Miranda, you’re smart. One night off won’t ruin your future. Have fun with Colin at the party. Trust me—go!”
Miranda accepted Colin’s invitation and called him, feeling more confident that one night wouldn’t affect her academics. I’ll attend, Colin. She stated this night is crucial to you and me.
Miranda felt odd entering the loud club where the celebration was that night. Colin observed and offered her a drink “Drink. You’ll feel better.”
Miranda was unable to decline. The wine made her forget her troubles and enjoy the music and dancing, feeling free.
Miranda woke up in a new place with her clothing on the floor the next morning. She was afraid of being naked near other females and boys sleeping.
Recalling parts of the night with Colin gave her a chill. She hastily phoned a taxi to return to her college room, anxious about what others might think.
Back in college, everyone whispered and watched her. Miranda didn’t know why.
She was sad and lonely and wanted to chat to Leslie, but she wasn’t there. Neither Leslie nor Colin answered her calls. After seeing embarrassing recordings and images, the college dean called her to say she would be expelled.
Miranda sought Colin’s help after becoming devastated. When she discovered him, he and Leslie were laughing meanly.
“Look who’s here,” Colin mocked. Miranda, ran to me? Thought I could fix your issue?”
Just as sarcastic was Leslie’s smile. Miranda, did you believe Colin liked you? She admitted it was a bet. Two weeks. Nothing more was needed to have you play the fool. Now look at you, nearly pleading for his help.”
Miranda felt hurt and alone as they laughed at her. Though they had fooled her and she had lost so much, she felt determined to overcome it.
After telling Colin and Leslie about her background that brought her to this diner as a waitress, Miranda sought revenge. May I ask Robert for help? Just once, spice up their food?”
Robert was dubious about the restaurant’s look, but Miranda insisted. “I must have this,” she said. “Please, do this for once?”
Robert didn’t want to, but he believed Leslie and Colin earned their due. “Okay, Miranda. Keep it low-key, he said.
Miranda made a hot sauce without considering the consequences of exposing her plot. Just getting even was her goal. “Use this,” she told Robert, offering a sauce-soaked napkin.
Once Colin and Leslie had their food, Leslie mocked her again. This is spicy? “SPICY Mexican stew?” she scowled.
Colin then cleaned his mouth with the napkin and was assaulted by the powerful spice. His complexion turned a deep scarlet as if the spice had smacked him, and he gasped in effort to breathe.
“Colin, breathe, just breathe,” Leslie patted his back. Leslie’s cheeks turned scarlet with shame when restaurant patrons stared and laughed. She realized she’d been nasty to Leslie, and now others laughed at her and Colin’s situation.
Inconsolable, she exclaimed, “It’s unbearable! We complete!” left quickly.
Miranda silently viewed the incident, smiling slightly. She remembered their deception that they would be happy together. It appeared fate had different plans.
Colin, in distress, shouted that Miranda should lose her job because she’messed with his dish,’ and Michael calmly intervened. He tried the stew and was fine. “Sir, this food is fine. He said, “It’s fine,” hiding the spicy-stained napkin.
Miranda has also been with us a while. He supported Miranda, saying she wouldn’t intentionally ruin a dinner. Miranda silently thanked her supervisor for his assistance.
Colin couldn’t find anyone who agreed with him. Other customers watched while Leslie was gone.
Michael then gave Colin kind advise. Colin, sometimes the heat comes from how we treat others, not the food. Think about it, okay?”
Colin was speechless, and Miranda felt content. She fought for herself smartly and saw how empathy and understanding connected people.
Michael’s defense of her and teaching Colin humility and respect reminded her that friends are always there in hard times.
