The international incident began Monday, following Thunberg’s claim of being “kidnapped” by Israeli military personnel while aboard a humanitarian aid vessel heading toward Gaza. The boat, operated by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), was intercepted in international waters, subsequently escorted to an Israeli port—triggering widespread global condemnation and heated online discussions.

In a prerecorded statement shared by the coalition, Thunberg calmly asserted:

“If you see this video, we have been intercepted and kidnapped in international waters by the Israeli occupational forces, or forces that support Israel.”
