It’s heartbreaking how cruel people can be to innocent dogs. One such case was Buddy, a friendly dog whose face was severely burned after being deliberately set on fire in April 2021. He was found with his face charred and an extension cord around his neck. A child later admitted to the act, but couldn’t be prosecuted due to age.
Buddy was taken in by the Tunica Humane Society in Mississippi and treated at Mississippi State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Though the road to recovery was long and painful, Buddy showed remarkable resilience.
Despite the trauma, Buddy’s eyesight was preserved, and he began healing through multiple skin grafts and constant care. His bandages were slowly reduced, and his spirit remained strong.
A major breakthrough came when Buddy could open his eyes without sedation for the first time in over three months — and he could still see. His personality blossomed again, becoming playful and joyful, often seen carrying a ball around the hospital.
Though he’s not fully healed and will have lifelong needs like sunscreen and eye drops, Buddy’s recovery is a powerful testament to hope, compassion, and the will to survive.
