The View’s Alyssa Farah Griffin and Sunny Hostin Brawl Over Whether Trump’s Baby Bonus Plan Is Racially Motivated

The View’s Alyssa Farah Griffin questioned her co-host, Sunny Hostin, slyly suggesting that racism was a motivating factor behind President Donald Trump’s plan to offer financial assistance to new mothers.

The administration is currently mulling a plan that would award $5000 to new mothers in an effort to increase birth rates. Trump called the plan a “good idea” while speaking to reporters this week.

On Wednesday’s The View, Hostin noted that a slight increase in birth rates in 2024 was driven primarily by Hispanic and Asian mothers, a stat she believes would be concerning to the current administration. While Hostin suggested racism, she never directly made the connection, though her co-host Joy Behar picked up the slack there.

“They’re saying that the U.S. birth rate is declining, however, in 2024 there was a 1% increase in U.S. births, but that increase was with Hispanic mothers and Asian mothers. Aha! So, they don’t seem to be concerned about that increase. They seem to be more concerned about a decrease in other populations,” Hostin said.

“Say it!” Behar chimed in, egging her co-host on.

“No, I think I’ve said enough,” Hostin said.

Griffin, who argued a similar baby incentive plan would be praised under former President Joe Biden, asked where any official had suggested the program would only apply to a certain race.

“What is that based on, though?” Griffin asked.

“White children!” Behar said while Hostin insisted she was simply presenting “stats” and “facts.”

“I just gave the stats. I’m just giving facts,” she said.
