Syracuse police arrest man who led them on a high-speed chase with a toddler in the car

SYRACUSE, NY – Authorities with the Syracuse Police Department (SPD) confirmed that police have arrested a man after he led them on a high-speed case with a one-year-old in his car.

According to CNYCentral, the incident happened on Wednesday, May 7th around noon. The suspect, 28-year-old Amir Ford, led police in a Toyota RAV4 through multiple streets and crashed into several vehicles. Police deployed spike strips to take the SUV out and the chase came to an end on Butternut Street.

The chase lasted nearly 30 minutes and Ford traveled at speeds 20 mph over the limit. When searching the vehicle, police found multi-colored pills covered in powder. Those pills tested positive for meth in the vehicle. The toddler that was in his car was a relative of his.

Ford has been charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, endangering the welfare of a child, aggravated harassment, a violation of parole, resisting arrest, and fleeing a police officer. He is due in Syracuse City Court on May 13th. He is being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center on a $100,000 bond and a $15,000 case bond.

In a separate incident, a 19-year-old man is accused of leading Milwaukee police on a chase that led to a crash that killed two people in the vehicle being pursued. According to FOX6, Darius Boldery is facing the following charges: two counts of first-degree reckless homicide; two counts of vehicle operator flee/elude officer resulting in death of another; and three counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety.

Milwaukee police were dispatched on Wednesday, April 30th to the area of Newberry and Hackett for a report of a suspicious vehicle. Officers searched and located a vehicle that matched the description the caller had provided. It was noted that there were three people inside the vehicle and so the officer then called for backup.

When the second police vehicle was within sight, the officer activated his lights to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle pulled over, however, the complaint states that after only a few seconds, the vehicle “accelerated away from his squad car” and was “traveling the wrong way on a one-way lane.”

Police began to chase the vehicle, which “continued to accelerate northbound in the southbound alnes, traveling at a very high rate of speed.” About 20 seconds later, the pursuing officer saw the “vehicle crash head on into a Ford Edge that was traveling southbound in the southbound lane.”

When the officer pulled up to the scene, he spotted the defendant “stuck in the driver’s seat and unable to move.” The front passenger was also stuck inside the vehicle and both were screaming for help. The officer noted that the person in the back seat “had no pulse and was not breathing at the time.”

The complaint also notes that while the officer was removing the people from the vehicle, “he located two firearms: an American Tactical .22 caliber rifle and an Anderson Manufacturing .223 caliber AR-15 style rifle.” All three people in the vehicle were taken to the hospital. The front passenger and the rear passenger later died from their injuries.

A record check on the vehicle that was pursued showed that it was registered to the defendant, who had a suspended probationary license. At the time of the collision, the vehicle was traveling 93 miles per hour. Boldery’s cash bond has been set at $800,000. He is due back in court on May 15th for a preliminary hearing.
