SACRAMENTO, CA- A pair of California lawmakers are pushing legislation that would ban police officers, not criminals or rioters, from wearing face masks during operations, putting undercover and tactical officers at serious risk.
California lawmakers from the Bay Area are proposing legislation that would ban individuals from covering their faces with masks.
The proposed legislation doesn’t target Antifa activists or violent demonstrators who throw fireworks at police, set cars ablaze, and cause widespread destruction. Instead, it seeks to prohibit police officers at every level from wearing face coverings while conducting operations in California
Think of the ramifications for undercover officers involved in drug interdiction or other sensitive operations. The possible consequences could prove deadly for such officers.
State Senators Jesse Arreguin and Scott Wiener are the sponsors of the bill.
The proposed bill would ban law enforcement, at all levels, from covering their faces while conducting operations. The bill would also require officers to be identifiable by their uniform or other means.
The bill…“cleverly” called the “No Secret Police Act”… would ostensibly include federal police officers, which would lead to an intriguing showdown between California and the Trump administration, which is trying to deport violent criminals allowed into the country by the Biden administration.
“We do not need secret police in California,” Wiener said at a Monday news conference, KTVU reported. Wiener, without proof, claimed that police officers are “grabbing” people and “throwing them into vans and disappearing them.” Wiener is a complete drama queen.
Continuing, Wiener and Arreguin said:
“As the Trump Administration expands the use of secret police tactics, SB627 boosts transparency and supports public safety by bolstering public trust in law enforcement.”
They forgot to mention it will put the lives of law enforcement officers and their families at risk from the unhinged mob of leftist lunatics.
Wiener is also known for proposing legislation to protect pedophiles. One such bill proposed in 2019, SB-145, Wiener co-introduced legislation that would eliminate the requirement for sex offenders to register as such if the victims’ age is within 10 years of the offender’s.. In other words, an 18-year-old who sexually victimizes an 8-year-old would not have to register as a sex offender under that legislation.
In 2023, Wiener invited the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a drag troupe that mocks the Catholic Church, into the California State Senate chambers to kick off pride month.
The irony of this proposed law is so thick you need a chainsaw to cut through it. Remember, during COVID, it was Democrats like Wiener and Arreguin who mandated people as young as two years old wear masks or face arrest (in the case of children, the parents). People were not allowed to paddleboard outside in the ocean unless they were wearing a mask. Children who went to bike parks were met with tons of sand dumped over the ramps. Children couldn’t play sports outside. Employees were required to submit to an experimental vaccine or face job loss. Restaurants closed by the hundreds. This went on in California for nearly three years.
Yet now, unhinged dimwits like Wiener and Arreguin want to remove masks from the very people who need them to protect themselves and their loved ones. Because you know, some cellar-dwelling soy boy with too much time on his hands is going to work overtime to dox the officers.
In a hilarious display of absurdity, Arreguin claims the purpose of the bill is to “protect law enforcement…from people who try to impersonate them.”
He apparently thinks he’s got a sense of humor.
There are a few exceptions to the bill, including SWAT teams and officers who wear masks during natural disasters. The sponsors claim riot gear would still be permitted because those face shields are see-through. No mention was made of gas masks.
Wiener’s radicalism caught the attention of Elon Musk, who in 2024 called Wiener an “utter scumbag” when End Wokeness posted bills Wiener sponsored on its X page.
Those include:
AB957- Penalizes parents who don’t affirm a child’s trans identity
SB107- Removes an out-of-state child from their parents if they travel to California to obtain gender transition
SB145- (addressed above)
SB866- Allows kids to consent to medical decisions without parents
SB239- Reduces penalty for deliberately spreading AIDS
SB132- Requires prisons to put males in female prisons if they claim to feel like a woman.
This legislation is dangerous and will get police officers or their families killed. If California legislators have a modicum of common sense, they will send this bill to the trash heap where it belongs
