Former Iowa women’s basketball superstar Caitlin Clark has plenty of stories that add to her legend. We have footage to go along with one of those stories, now.
Hawkeyes fans and others have likely heard of Clark’s apparent 22-point barrage in two minutes during a scrimmage against Iowa’s gray squad, a practice team consisting of male students. There’s now video to back up what Clark has mentioned before, and it’s just as incredible as it sounded.
Clark hoisted 3-pointer after 3-pointer, some from nearly halfcourt and others while falling to her left or kicking out a leg in midair.
The video was uncovered on March 22, 2024, but went viral on Tuesday after Barstool Sports’ Dave Portnoy shared the clip. “She is the one,” Portnoy wrote.
Clark also talked about the scrimmage in a recent interview with David Letterman on Netflix’s “My Guest Needs No Introduction,” which also brought attention to the performance.
“We were down 15, and we made a couple of 3-pointers to cut it down to 10,” Clark said. “I think I had 22 points in like two minutes.”
Letterman replied: “22 points in two minutes?”
“Usually, I’m never shocked when I hit a big shot, but after like my fifth 3-pointer in a row, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh,’” Clark said. “I couldn’t believe it. We ended up winning, and our boy practice players didn’t hear the end of it.”
Portnoy’s repost of the video has over 2.4 million views as of Tuesday afternoon, with another repost of the video from a Clark fan account notching over 2 million, as well.
The 23-year-old guard was a WNBA All-Star in her first professional season after being drafted No. 1 overall. The NCAA’s all-time leading scorer won back-to-back national player of the year awards in 2023 and 2024 and was a four-time All-American with the Hawkeyes.
It was recently announced the Indiana Fever will have more nationally televised games than any WNBA team this season, in large part due to Clark’s influence. Forty-one of the Fever’s 44 games will air on national TV.
