I THOUGHT MY WIFE AND I WERE READY FOR A BABY—UNTIL SHE MADE A DECISION THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

When my wife, Sarah, and I decided it was time to start a family, we both thought we were ready. We had a stable life, a home we loved, and both of us had good jobs. We discussed our plans for months and felt confident about what was to come. But when Sarah unexpectedly decided to adopt a child instead of having a biological one, it completely threw me off guard.

It wasn’t that I was against adoption, but it wasn’t what we had planned. I had always envisioned us going through the pregnancy process together, experiencing the joy of expecting a child, and building our future around that idea. Adoption, to me, felt like an entirely different journey—one I wasn’t sure I was prepared for.

Sarah, however, was determined. She had spent years volunteering at an adoption agency and had always been passionate about providing a loving home to children in need. After many conversations, I understood that for her, adopting wasn’t just an option—it was the right thing to do. It was a choice driven by love, empathy, and a deep desire to give a child a better life.

Watching her go through the adoption process, seeing her so excited about bringing a child into our home, I realized I was wrong about being “ready.” Being ready wasn’t about the right timing or the perfect plan; it was about being willing to love and grow together. The child we adopted not only changed our lives, but it also deepened our bond in a way I never anticipated. I will forever be grateful for my wife’s vision and strength.
